CHINESE OPERA IN ENGLISH
ORIENTAL WOMEN TALK

Cantonese opera is one of the several regional operas in China.

The Cantonese opera in English was started by Wah Yan
Dramatic Society which was established in 1947 in Hong Kong.
Apart from the lyrics which were written in English, all the other
aspects of the productions including the spectacular costuming
and the special movements of a Chinese opera, are preserved.
The music too is genuinely Chinese.

Most of the artists of the The Wah Yan Dramatic Society are
amateurs. They are either professionals and prominent people in
the society of Hong Kong, who share the same passion of acting
in a Cantonese opera.

What we have here is an extract of a Cantonese opera
performing in English, titled "Three Times Engaged". This
extract shows a  performance of a female matchmaker
performed by a male former senior civil servant.
