TIME CHANGES PEOPLE
Summer is here and most women are now wearing tank top or low cut
dresses proudly exposing their cleavage in public places .Women wearing
clothes showing half of their breasts during those days in the 60s were
considered indecent. Showing bra straps was improper. Whenever we saw
our female friends accidentally showing the bra straps from their sleeveless
top, we would quietly help them to tuck them back in. Wearing petticoats
were common. My mother used to sew me and my sisters pretty white
petticoats with laces trimming on.
Fashion shows 1950s -1960s
Fashion now allows men to wear hipster trousers so as to show off the top
of their boxer shorts. Unshaved is also in fashion.
Advertising sanitary towels were unthinkable in those days and not to think
of advertising condoms in public as well. When my first period came,
sanitary towels were not available in Hong Kong yet, though disposable
sanitary pads were available in the west around the year 1895. My mother
taught me to use rice paper, creased and then smoothened it by hands and
finally folded it like an accordion and tied it to a large handkerchief that was
attached to a string tied around the waist.
